Ryan Pulock's first goal of the season helped the visiting New York Islanders defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 on Sunday in Raleigh, N.C.
Islanders goalie Thomas Greiss stopped 38 shots, continuing his mastery against the Hurricanes. He has won his last five matchups when facing Carolina.
Pulock scored with 5:25 remaining in the second period.
Anders Lee, who had the primary assist on the go-ahead goal, also scored the game's first goal.
The Islanders posted consecutive victories for the first time under first-year coach Barry Trotz. A day earlier, they won 6-1 at Philadelphia to begin a three-game road stretch.
Teuvo Teravainen scored just 76 seconds into the second period for Carolina's goal. It was his third of the season.
Carolina center Sebastian Aho's season-opening points streak was extended to 11 games when he assisted on Teravainen's goal, tying a franchise record. It was his 12th assist of the season.
Hurricanes goalie Petr Mrazek, who was making his third consecutive start, stopped 18 shots. His save with about five minutes to play after a teammate's turnover kept it to a one-goal margin.
Mrazek was used even though projected first-stringer Scott Darling was available for the second game in a row after missing the start of the season due to an injury sustained in the final preseason game.
Carolina killed off a New York power play that began with five minutes to play. Unlike on opening night, the Hurricanes were unable to tie the score after pulling Mrazek for an extra skater.
Lee scored on a power play 3:39 into the game on a shot from the slot. It came just nine seconds after Carolina's Jordan Staal went to the penalty box for hooking.
The Hurricanes had two first-period power plays but failed to respond, though they held a 12-5 edge in shots through the first 20 minutes.
Carolina dominated for long stretches of play, racking up a 19-9 edge in second-period shots.
The Hurricanes were coming of a riveting 4-3 shootout victory two nights earlier against San Jose, when they rallied from a pair of two-goal deficits.
