Blues 4, Sabres 1: Brenden Morrow scored twice to double his total for the season as visiting St. Louis shook off an early deficit to pull away from Buffalo.

Vladimir Tarasenko scored his seventh goal, Magnus Paajarvi added his first and Chris Stewart recorded two assists for the Blues. Jaroslav Halak rebounded from being pulled in Sunday’s 4-1 loss at Washington to turn aside 23 shots for St. Louis, which improved to 6-1-1 in the last eight contests.

Tyler Ennis registered his fourth goal 10 seconds into the game for the Sabres, who are 1-2-0 since Ted Nolan replaced Ron Rolston as coach. Ryan Miller made 27 saves for his 12th loss in 16 decisions.

Ville Leino swiped a bouncing puck from St. Louis defenseman Jay Bouwmeester and slid a pass to Ennis for a short-lived lead. Morrow answered 59 seconds later from the left faceoff circle after a nifty back pass from Stewart before Tarasenko flipped in a loose puck at the right post on the power play with 36 seconds left in the first.

St. Louis extended the lead 14:09 into the second session when Stewart stole the puck behind the net and set up Morrow’s snap shot at the left faceoff circle. Paajarvi, who was playing in his second game after missing nine with an upper-body injury, hammered a shot past Miller 6:10 into the third.

Grigorenko’s demotion is deemed a conditioning stint. … St. Louis C Patrik Berglund missed his second straight game with an upper-body injury. … Ennis’ goal was the quickest for the Sabres since RW Drew Stafford scored 10 seconds into a game Jan. 29, 2009 against Edmonton.
