Coyotes 3, Kings 1: Mike Smith made 41 saves and Kyle Chipchura recorded a goal and an assist as host Phoenix posted its fourth win in five games.
Defenseman Derek Morris and captain Shane Doan also scored for the Coyotes, who have earned at least one point in nine of their last 10 contests (7-1-2). Andy Miele notched a pair of assists for his first two NHL points as Phoenix improved to 5-0-1 at home.
Jarret Stoll spoiled Smith's shutout bid with a power-play goal at 16:39 of the third period. Ben Scrivens stopped 30 shots for the Kings, who outshot the Coyotes 18-6 in the final session.
After more than 38 scoreless minutes, Morris got Phoenix on the board with 1:41 remaining in the second period with a shot from the right point that deflected off a defender and past Scrivens. Doan doubled the lead during a power play 1:35 later, when he tipped defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson's shot from the top of the slot.
Chipchura capped the scoring at 5:38 of the third. David Moss made a pass from the bottom of the right faceoff circle that deflected off Chipchura's skate and in.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Smith came up with a stellar effort after a disappointing showing at Los Angeles on Thursday, when he was pulled after allowing four goals on 15 shots in a 7-4 loss. ... Chipchura also engaged in a fight with Kings LW Daniel Carcillo, giving him a "Gordie Howe" hat trick. ... Coyotes RW Jordan Szwarz made his NHL debut, registering two shots in 8:16 of ice time. Szwarz was in the lineup in place of C Martin Hanzal, who began serving his two-game suspension for a charging incident against Edmonton on Saturday.
