Freshman quarterback Kendall Hinton ran for two touchdowns in place of the injured John Wolford and Mike Weaver kicked a 47-yard field goal as time expired to give Wake Forest a 17-14 victory over Army at West Point, N.Y., on Saturday.
The Demon Deacons (2-1) snapped an 11-game road losing streak dating to a 25-11 victory over Army on Sept. 21, 2013, with their ninth consecutive win over the Black Knights.
Hinton rushed for 101 yards on 17 carries and was 15-of-27 passing for 159 yards and two interceptions -- both by freshman defensive back Brandon Jackson.
Wolford (3-for-5, 16 yards) aggravated a right ankle injury and left in the second quarter after an interception by linebacker Jeremy Timpf led to Army's first touchdown.
Sophomore quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown and was 2-of-3 passing for 54 yards for the Black Knights (0-3), who have lost their games this season by a combined 10 points.
Running back Christian Drake's nine-yard touchdown run with 7:25 remaining made it 14-14.
Wake Forest appeared to be in control before Jackson stepped in front of Hinton's pass and returned it 43 yards to set up Drake's touchdown on the next play.
Jackson again intercepted a Hinton pass on the next possession at the Army 35-yard line with 5:39 left.
The Demon Deacons began the winning drive at their own seven-yard- line with 2:35 remaining and Hinton converted two third-down conversions.
After holder Alexander Kinal handled a bad snap and barely got the ball standing, Weaver delivered his season-long kick.
The Black Knights took a 7-0 lead when Bradshaw's four-yard scoring run capped a 55-yard drive highlighted by a 31-yard reception by receiver DeAndre Bell on third-and-five on Army's only pass of the first half.
Wake Forest's deepest penetration before intermission was the Black Knights' 32-yard line.
The Demon Deacons' offense sprang to life in the third quarter, when Hinton scored on a 15-yard run one play after connecting with receiver K.J. Brent for 51 yards.
Hinton's seven-yard touchdown run finished a 71-yard drive and gave Wake Forest a 14-7 lead with 13:41 remaining.
