Brown accounted for 252 yards and a touchdown to lead the Terrpains
to a road win over the Wolverines.
Brown passed for 165 yards and
rushed for another 87 for Maryland (7-4, 4-3 Big Ten), which won
despite being outgained 398-312 and holding the ball for eight fewer
minutes than Michigan. Jacquille Veii had three catches for 45 yards
while Deon Long had four catches for 39 yards for the Terrapins.
Drake Johnson rushed for 94 yards
for Michigan (5-6, 3-4), while Devin Gardner had 82 yards and a
touchdown on the ground. Gardner was 13-of-24 for 106 yards and an
interception, finding Devin Funchess five times for 30 yards.
The first half was a battle of
field goals, with Maryland's Brad Craddock hitting from 38, 41 and 21 yards and Michigan's Matt Wile connecting from 22, 33 and 26, with the last
one coming on the final play of the half. The Wolverines
finally broke through with a touchdown in the third quarter when
Gardner took it in from 15 yards out with 10:25 to go in the period.
But those were the last points the
Wolverines scored, as the Maryland defense tightened up and the
offense took over. Brown tied the score with an 8-yard
quarterback keeper with 14:47 to play, and Wes Brown put the
Terrapins ahead for good with a 1-yard scoring run that capped a
78-yard drive with 5:59 remaining.
GAME NOTEBOOK: C.J. Brown became
the Maryland all-time leader in touchdowns with his
54th. … Michigan must defeat Ohio State on the
road next weekend to become bowl eligible. … The Terrapins beat the
Wolverines for the first time in four all-time meetings.
