No. 4 Oklahoma 45, West Virginia 33: Freshman Samaje Perine ran for 242 yards and four touchdowns to almost single-handedly carry the Sooners past the host Mountaineers in the Big 12 Conference opener for both teams.

Perine, filling in for the injured Keith Ford, carried the ball 34 times as Oklahoma (4-0, 1-0 Big 12) extended its winning streak to eight games - the second-longest active run in FBS. Trevor Knight passed for 205 yards and Sterling Shepard made six catches for 101 yards for the Sooners, who were outgained 513-510 by West Virginia (2-2, 0-1).

Clint Trickett was 25-of-41 for 376 yards with two TDs and two interceptions for the Mountaineers, who dropped a 50-49 shootout to Oklahoma in Morgantown two years ago. Kevin White had 10 receptions for 173 yards and a score while Mario Alford added seven grabs for 101 yards and a touchdown.

After the teams went up-and-down the field in the first half for a 24-24 tie, Perine ran for 131 yards on 20 carries after intermission and scored on runs of 9, 5 and 19 yards as he simply wore down West Virginia's defense. Trickett threw a second-half pick and was unable to convert a fourth-down play inside Oklahoma territory with about four minutes left before Dreamius Smith capped the scoring with an 11-yard run with 2:12 to play.

The Sooners' first TD of the game came off a double-reverse pass from Durron Neal to a wide-open Knight from four yards out, followed by a short scoring run by Perine and a 100-yard kickoff return by Alex Ross. Trickett made a 68-yard TD pass to White in the first quarter and found Alford down the left sideline for a 30-yard TD that originally was ruled out of bounds in the second before Rushel Shell scored on a 5-yard run.

Game Notebook: Perine recorded the most rushing yards by a freshman since Adrian Peterson ran for 249 against Oklahoma State in 2004. ... White has over 100 yards receiving in all four games this season. … Trickett has thrown for 300 yards in five consecutive games.
