No. 8 Florida State 54, Bethune-Cookman 6: Jameis Winston threw for 148 yards and two touchdowns as the Seminoles sailed to a blowout win over the visiting Wildcats.
Devonta Freeman paced the running game for Florida State (3-0), passing the century mark for the second straight game with 112 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. James Wilder, Jr. added 56 rushing yards and a touchdown for the Seminoles and Karlos Williams punched in a pair of late scores as Florida State outgained Bethune-Cookman by 250 yards overall.
Jackie Wilson replaced an ineffective Quentin WIlliams at quarterback for the Wildcats (3-1) and accounted for Bethune-Cookman's only touchdown of the game, capping a 12-play, 75-yard, third-quarter drive with a 7-yard rumble to the end zone. Running back Anthony Jordan followed up a career-high 150 yards against Florida International with 81 yards on 15 carries against Florida State.
The Wildcats moved the ball effectively on the game's opening drive, highlighted by a 17-yard scamper by Williams across midfield for a first down. But after Terrance Smith halted Bethune-Cookman's momentum with a sack two plays later, senior linebacker Telvin Smith jumped a Williams pass for his first interception since 2011 and returned it 68 yards for his first career touchdown.
Winston escaped two Wildcat defenders to find Kelvin Benjamin from 11 yards out for the game's first offensive touchdown in the second quarter and Wilder and Freeman added scoring runs to send the Seminoles into halftime with a 33-0 lead. Winston hit Rashad Greene on a 19-yard touchdown strike to open the second half before being replaced by Jacob Coker down the stretch, with the game well in hand.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Florida State junior S Tyler Hunter left the game in the second quarter with a neck contusion and did not return. ... After briefly trailing Nevada 7-3 last week, the Seminoles scored 99 unanswered points before the Wildcats' third-quarter touchdown. ... Florida State played without LB Christian Jones and DT Eddie Goldman, with each suspended for an unspecified violation of team rules.
