Tulsa 31, Iowa State 17: Alex Singleton rushed for three short touchdowns to help the Golden Hurricane rally past the Cyclones in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tenn., and avenge a season-opening loss.
Singleton, who rushed for 35 yards on 15 carries, scored two of his touchdowns during Tulsa's game-ending run of 24 unanswered points. Trey Watts rushed for 149 yards on 25 carries, Ja'Terian Douglas added 79 yards and quarterback Cody Green had 58 rushing yards and a score as Tulsa (11-3) racked up 317 yards on the ground.
Iowa State redshirt freshman quarterback Sam Richardson went 10-of-21 for 129 yards and struggled after building an early 17-7 lead. Senior Steele Jantz replaced Richardson in the fourth quarter but had two turnovers.
The Cyclones (6-7) jumped to an early lead on Jeremy Reeves' 31-yard interception return and Ernst Brun Jr.'s 69-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter.
Tulsa's Shawn Jackson had two sacks in one drive before Green and Singleton scored on back-to-back short drives for a 21-17 lead in the second quarter. Singleton put the game away with a 1-yard score on fourth down with 1:50 left in the third quarter.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Iowa State, which defeated Tulsa 38-23 on Sept. 1, had seven punts, three turnovers and a missed field goal after taking a 17-7 lead Monday. ... The Hurricane went 10-0 this season when they rushed for at least 200 yards. ... It was Tulsa's second win (2-21) against a BCS conference school in the past 12 years.
