Tobais Palmer pulled the Wolfpack (7-6) within 21-14 with a 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, but N.C. State's fourth turnover of the half set up Rodgers' 18-yard scoring pass to Matthews to make it 28-14 with 41 seconds left in the half.
N.C. State stayed within two scores throughout the second half, but Rodgers' 15-yard touchdown run with 5:11 left sealed Vanderbilt's first bowl win since the 2008 Music City Bowl.
