Duke 38, Memphis 14: Sean Renfree overcame an early interception and matched a career high with four touchdown passes as the host Blue Devils cruised past the Tigers.
Renfree completed 26 of 37 passes for 314 yards for Duke, which is off to its first 3-1 start since 2008.
Blue Devils freshman Jela Duncan added a game-high 88 yards rushing on just nine carries.
After Renfree’s first pass attempt of the second quarter was intercepted and returned for a touchdown by Wynton McManis, Memphis (0-4) answered a Blue Devils' touchdown run from Brandon Connette. Renfree then found Conner Vernon near the end of the half to give Duke its first lead of the game.
As Memphis’ offense sputtered in the second half, Renfree continued Duke’s scoring assault, blistering the Tigers’ defense for three scores over the final 30 minutes.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Vernon caught a pass in his 39th straight game, extending the longest active streak in the nation and his own school record. … The Blue Devils improved to 14-5 under coach David Cutcliffe when scoring at least 30 points. … With his 26 completions, Renfree passed Steve Slayden (1984-87) for sole possession of fourth place in school history.
