John White rushed for 167 yards and scored three touchdowns as Utah crushed visiting UCLA 31-6 on Saturday for its third straight victory.
White ran for two touchdowns - 1 and 22 yards - and caught a 13-yard scoring pass from Jon Hays as Utah (6-4, 3-4) improved to 6-0 when White tops 100 yards rushing.
Despite the loss, UCLA (5-5, 4-3) remained in the driver's seat tied for the Pac-12 South lead because of Arizona State's 37-27 loss at Washington State on Saturday. The Bruins defeated the Sun Devils 29-28 last week to earn the tiebreaker.
UCLA, which had a two-game winning streak snapped, was unable to find the end zone on a slick field after heavy snow in Salt Lake City.
The outcome was sealed when Utah’s Conroy Black returned an interception 67 yards for a touchdown to give the Utes a 28-6 lead with 9:03 left. Black intercepted UCLA quarterback Kevin Prince twice.
White’s 22-yard scamper gave Utah a 21-3 advantage with 3:18 left in the third quarter. He has 1,191 yards on the season, fourth-best in Utes history.
UCLA took a 3-0 first-quarter lead on Tyler Gonzalez’s 30-yard field goal and led until White’s 1-yard touchdown run with 5:34 left in the first half.
Gonzalez added a 36-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for UCLA’s final points.
USC is 5-2 in the South Division, but is ineligible to play in the Pac-12 title game.
