Jared Barnett passed for a touchdown and rushed for another in his first career start as visiting Iowa State stunned No. 22 Texas Tech 41-7 on Saturday.
James White (138 yards) and Duran Hollis (102) each ran for a touchdown as the Cyclones (4-4, 1-4 Big 12) rushed for 368 yards to snap a four-game slide and record their first 30-plus point win over a conference opponent since 2002.
The Red Raiders (5-3, 2-3), who were 15-point favorites, suffered a huge letdown after beating No. 3 Oklahoma last week. Seth Doege, who threw for 441 yards against the Sooners, had 171 yards Saturday, and tossed a pair of interceptions, lost a fumble and was replaced late in the game.
Iowa State imposed its will from the start, rushing for two touchdowns in the first quarter to take a quick lead.
The Cyclones took advantage of Doege’s first interception to make it 21-0. Barnett, a redshirt freshman, hit Darius Darks for a 2-yard score to complete a three-play, 2-yard drive.
Iowa State stayed on the ground out of the break. Hollis broke for a 71-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter and White added a score in the fourth.
