LSU dominated every facet of the game and quickly turned a key SEC matchup with Auburn into a 45-10 home rout.
The win keeps LSU, No. 1 in the BCS rankings, on track for a showdown with Alabama that will go a long way toward determining who plays in the BCS title game.
The winner of the LSU-Auburn matchup has gone on to win the SEC West title in seven of the past 11 seasons.
The Tigers' running game held its own without leading rusher Spencer Ware, who was suspended for the game. Sophomore Michael Ford rolled up a game-high 82 rushing yards, and freshman Kenny Hilliard had the best game of his brief career with 65 yards and two touchdowns.
LSU's quarterback combination also was effective, as Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson combined for three touchdown passes without an interception.
The Tigers (8-0, 5-0 SEC) have not committed a turnover in their past five games and have won 17 straight games when winning the turnover battle.
Auburn (5-3, 3-2 SEC) had a chance to keep it close in the first half before giving up a pair of long touchdown passes that extended LSU's lead to 21-3 at halftime.
Auburn's quarterback change didn't work out as well. Sophomore Clint Moseley failed to throw a touchdown pass in his first start, but he did throw an interception that resulted in an LSU touchdown on Ron Brooks' 27-yard return in the third quarter.
LSU has won its first eight games by double digits and nine straight dating to last season.
LSU has won six straight meetings with Auburn at home, where the Tigers have won 15 straight dating to 2009.
