Zac Stacy rushed for nearly 200 yards and three touchdowns and Jordan Rodgers passed for a score and ran for another in his first start to lead Vanderbilt past visiting Army, 44-21, on Saturday night.
Chris Boyd caught a touchdown pass for the Commodores (4-3, 1-3 SEC), who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Rodgers had the Vanderbilt offense moving right away. The junior passed for 116 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 73 yards in the first half alone as the Commodores took a 23-6 lead into the break.
He got plenty of help from Stacy, who burst for a 1-yard touchdown on the opening drive. It took Vanderbilt only three plays to score again, as the Black Knights lost a fumble and Rodgers found Boyd for a 43-yard score on the following play.
Two touchdowns within a minute of each other in the third quarter made it 37-6 in favor of the Commodores.
Army (2-5) entered as the nation’s leading rushing team, averaging 361.3 yards on the ground. Vanderbilt managed to hold the Black Knights under 270 yards rushing while forcing three fumbles.
The Commodores became the first team this season to out-rush Army, going over 300 yards.
