Down 17 points in the second quarter, No. 10 Arkansas broke loose for 29 unanswered points in a 29-24 victory at Mississippi.
The Razorbacks (6-1, 2-1 SEC) scored 19 points in the third quarter, turning a 17-7 halftime deficit into a 26-17 lead. Arkansas scored on its first three possessions of the quarter and fumbled at the goal line on the fourth, only to get a safety two plays later.
Quarterback Tyler Wilson scored on a pair of 1-yard runs for Arkansas, and Jerry Franklin tackled Ole Miss running back Jeff Scott in the end zone for a safety.
Ole Miss pulled within 29-24 on Donte Moncrief’s 4-yard touchdown reception from Randall Mackey with 1:23 left. The Rebels recovered the onside kick, but Mackey was sacked on first down and intercepted on second down.
With their eighth-ranked passing offense in the nation struggling, the Razorbacks used a strong running game and great offensive line play to turn things around.
Dennis Johnson’s 52-yard touchdown on third-and-14 with 5:11 left in the first half started Arkansas’ comeback. Johnson, who had rushed for just 113 yards all season, finished with a career-high 160 yards.
The Rebels (2-5, 0-4) scored more points in the first half then they had in any SEC game this season. Randall Mackey completed a 31-yard touchdown pass to Moncrief 10 seconds into the second quarter, and rushed for a 3-yard score with 6:42 to go as the Rebels built a 17-0 lead.
