Isaiah Pead’s 50-yard touchdown run capped a comeback for Cincinnati as the Bearcats beat Louisville 25-16 Saturday at Paul Brown Stadium to win the Keg of Nails for the fourth straight time.
The Bearcats trailed 16-7 at halftime, but held the Cardinals scoreless after intermission while getting touchdowns on runs by quarterback Zach Collaros and Pead to take command of the game.
Cincinnati (5-1, 1-0 Big East) came in with the most potent offense in the Big East averaging 45 points, but had more than enough firepower to win against Louisville (2-4, 0-1 Big East), which lost its third straight game.
The Cardinals did not tally an offensive touchdown, getting all their points on a trio of field goals by Chris Philpott and a 63-yard pick-six interception return by Mike Evans right before halftime. Will Stein made a cameo at QB for Louisville, his first action since missing two games with a shoulder problem, but Teddy Bridgewater still got the bulk of the work under center.
Pead tallied a rushing touchdown for the sixth consecutive game as part of a 151-yard performance, and topped the 100-yard barrier for the third time this season.
Zach Collaros completed 18 of 26 passes, including a 26-yard touchdown to D.J. Woods in the second quarter.
