Spencer Ware rushed for two touchdowns and No. 2 LSU’s defense lived up to the hype in a 41-11 victory over No. 18 Florida in Baton Rouge on Saturday.
The Tigers (6-0, 3-0 SEC) continued to work Jordan Jefferson back in at quarterback, having him share time with Jarrett Lee in a passing attack that took a backseat to the running game against the Gators. The two combined for only 14 pass attempts and each threw for a touchdown.
Lee connected on a 46-yard score with Rueben Randle early in the first quarter and Jefferson hit tight end Mitch Joseph with a jump pass from 2 yards out with 12:20 left in the game.
Florida (4-2, 2-2) is even less settled at quarterback, with Jacoby Brissett becoming the first true freshman in school history to take his first college snap as a starter. Senior John Brantley and freshman Jeff Driskel were injured in last week’s loss to Alabama.
The Tigers defense picked Brissett off twice on long passes - once in the end zone - and were up 24-0 by the time he led his first scoring drive for a field just before the half.
LSU coach Les Miles called for a fake punt late in the first quarter and punter Brad Wing rushed easily up the left sideline and into the end zone. The touchdown was negated by a 15-yard taunting penalty, drawn when Wing held the ball out toward a Florida defender.
