Tevin Washington rushed for a pair of touchdowns and threw for another as No. 25 Georgia Tech overcame numerous mistakes and held on for a 35-28 win over North Carolina on Saturday afternoon at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

Georgia Tech (4-0, 1-0 ACC) is off to its first 4-0 start since 1990 when the Yellow Jackets were co-national champions.

Georgia Tech, which led 28-14 late in the third quarter, squandered the lead as North Carolina (3-1, 1-1 ACC) rallied to tie the game 28-28 with 7:22 remaining, but Washington scored on a 5-yard TD run with 5:20 left in the game to give the Yellow Jackets the lead for good.

North Carolina had one final chance, driving to the Georgia Tech 40 in the final seconds, but Jeremiah Attaochu recorded his third sack of the game and sixth by the Yellow Jackets to thwart the Tar Heels last attempt.

Washington passed for 184 yards and ran for another 73 as Georgia Tech was held to 495 yards, below its season average of 624. Georgia Tech missed two opportunities in the red zone in the first half and a dropped TD pass in the fourth quarter.

North Carolina was led by running back Giovani Bernard, who rushed for 150 yards on 18 carries and scored two touchdowns, including a 55-yard run to tie the game at 28-all in the fourth quarter.
