Purdue scored early and often Saturday afternoon at Ross-Ade Stadium as the Boilermakers raced to a 38-point halftime lead and dominated visiting Southeast Missouri State from start to finish en route to a 59-0 win.

The 59 points are the most scored by Purdue since a 62-10 win over Indiana on Nov. 22, 2008, and the shutout was the first by a Boilermaker team since the 2004 season opener, a 51-0 blanking of Syracuse.

After a punt and a fumble on its first two possessions early of the game, Purdue (2-1) scored on its next six possessions, including five touchdowns as the Boilermakers manhandled the defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Redhawks, outgaining them 627-153. Purdue rushed for 393 yards and seven touchdowns on the day.

Akeem Shavers, Ralph Bolden and Akeem Hunt each ran for two touchdowns and senior quarterback Robert Marve saw his first action of the season since returning from a torn ACL in 2010. The highly touted Marve, who transferred from Miami (Fla.) two years ago, completed 7-of-8 passes for 91 yards, including a touchdown pass to Gary Bush in the second quarter.

Purdue is off next weekend before hosting Notre Dame on Oct. 1.
