Zach Maynard threw three touchdown passes and host California cruised to a 63-12 victory over visiting Presbyterian on Saturday at AT&T Park in San Francisco.
California (3-0) led 28-0 early in the second quarter and its 42-point first half tied for the fourth-most in school history.
Isi Sofele led the Golden Bears with 105 yards and two touchdowns, and wide receiver Marvin Jones had seven catches for 123 yards and a touchdown. Maynard was 14-of-24 passing for 204 yards.
Presbyterian (1-2), a member of the Football Championship Subdivision's Big South Conference, scored 12 points in the first half despite having 14 yards of total offense.
Justin Bethel blocked Bryan Anger's punt and scored to make it 28-6, but California answered on its next drive with Maynard's 16-yard touchdown pass to Spencer Hagan.
With three minutes left in the half, Bethel intercepted Maynard and ran 29 yards for a touchdown.
California freshman Brendan Bigelow ran the second-half kickoff back 88
yards for a touchdown, and finished with 114 all-purpose yards in his
college debut.
The Golden Bears open their Pac-12 Conference season on Sept. 24 at Washington.
