Sophomore running backs Michael Ford and Spencer Ware each rushed for two touchdowns and No. 3 LSU overcame a sluggish start to blow out Northwestern State 49-3 on Saturday.
The win extended the nation's longest non-conference regular-season winning streak to 35 games dating to 2002.
The Tigers (2-0) led only 7-3 in the second quarter before reeling off 21 points in the final 10:08 of the first half for a 28-3 halftime lead. LSU finished with 400 total yards (175 rushing) while holding the Demons to 95 total yards.
It was the first meeting of the intrastate opponents since 1942. LSU leads the all-time series 11-0 and has outscored the Demons 466-3.
LSU improved to 30-1 against non-conference opponents and 25-0 in regular-season non-conference games under coach Les Miles.
Northwestern State (1-1) failed to earn its 500th victory since the football program launched in 1907. The Demons are 499-417-22 all-time.
