Southern Cal transfer Aaron Corp threw for 193 yards and a touchdown, and FCS member Richmond benefited from two late missed field-goal tries to prevail for a third straight meeting at Duke, 23-21.
Blue Devils senior Will Snyderwine, who entered the season third in field-goal percentage (.864) nationally among active kickers, pushed a 28-yard attempt to the right with 1:43 remaining and missed on a 60-yarder as time expired.
Richmond, the 2008 FCS national champion, also won at Duke in 2006 (13-0) and 2009 (24-16).
The Spiders triumphed despite making a major adjustment right before the season, when interim coach Wayne Lineburg took over after head coach Latrell Scott resigned Aug. 23 following a DWI arrest.
A 1-yard rushing score by Garrett Turner gave Richmond the 23-21 edge with 10:25 to play in what was the fifth lead change.
The Blue Devils had rushing touchdowns from Desmond Scott, Brandon Connette and Anthony Boone.
The Spiders got on the board first, on the first play of the second quarter after they recovered a Sean Renfree fumble at the Duke 8-yard line. Corp hit Stephen Barnette on a 6-yard scoring pass.
Another fumble recovery led to Remington Hinshaw's 29-yard field goal as the Spiders took a 10-7 halftime edge.
