James Franklin accounted for 201 total yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 21 Missouri to a 17-6 victory over Miami (Ohio) in Columbia, Mo.

Franklin, a sophomore quarterback making his first career start, passed for 129 yards and ran for 72 more, but the Tigers couldn’t separate from the pesky RedHawks until the fourth quarter.

Missouri led 10-6 going into the final period, when Franklin found Marcus Lucas for a 10-yard touchdown pass to give the Tigers an 11-point lead.

The Tigers have won 22 straight non-conference regular-season games, but they’ll have a much tougher test Friday night at Arizona State.

Zac Dysert passed for 194 yards for the RedHawks, who had no trouble moving the ball on the Missouri defense but failed to take advantage of multiple trips inside scoring territory. Miami’s only score came on a 10-yard run by Erik Finklea after Dayonne Nunley picked off a Franklin pass, setting up the RedHawks at the Missouri 14-yard line.

Miami, in its first season under new coach Don Treadwell, lost its 12th straight road game against BCS schools.
