Andrew Luck passed for 284 yards and four touchdowns in possibly his last college game to lead No. 4 Stanford to a 40-12 rout of No. 13 Virginia Tech on Monday in the Discover Orange Bowl in Miami.
Coby Fleener finished with 172 receiving yards and three touchdowns and Jeremy Stewart rushed for a score for the Cardinal (12-1), who rolled up 528 yards of total offense.
Virginia Tech (11-3) actually led at one point, when Tyrod Taylor turned in the highlight of the game by scrambling all the way to the sideline before heaving an 11-yard touchdown pass to a sliding David Wilson that made it 9-7 early in the second quarter.
But Luck’s first touchdown pass came four minutes later and Stanford took a 13-12 lead into the break. The second half belonged to the Cardinal, as Owen Marecic burst through for a 1-yard touchdown run and Luck, who is projected to be the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft should he elect to leave school, found Fleener for scores of 41, 58, and 38 yards to complete the scoring.
The Stanford defense held the Hokies to 65 yards on the ground en route to the school's first bowl win since 1996.
