Landry Jones passed for 339 yards and a touchdown, and rushed for another score as No. 9 Oklahoma edged No. 13 Nebraska 23-20 in the Big 12 Championship Game on Saturday.
Jimmy Stevens kicked the deciding 27-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for the Sooners, who are headed to the Fiesta Bowl and a meeting with Big East champion Connecticut or Stanford.
Nebraska (10-3, 6-2 Big 12) looked like it was ready to run away with it early in the first half when it took a 17-0 lead thanks to a 66-yard touchdown run from Roy Helu and a halfback pass from Rex Burkhead to Kyler Reed that went for a 5-yard score early in the second quarter.
But Oklahoma (11-2, 6-2) got a big play of its own when Jones hit Kenny Stills down the middle with a 49-yard scoring pass. After a field goal, Jones capitalized on a turnover with a 1-yard rushing score to make it 17-17.
The Cornhuskers took the lead back on a field goal in the closing seconds of the half, but the Sooners matched with their own shortly after the break to make it 20-20.
The game was Nebraska’s last in the Big 12 as the school will move to the Big Ten next season.
