Steven Ridley rushed for 64 yards and a pair of scores and the Louisiana State defense turned a pair of turnovers into touchdowns in a 51-0 rout of Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday.
Lavar Edwards returned a fumble 28 yards for a touchdown and Ron Brooks ran back an interception 31 yards for the No. 6 Tigers (9-1, 5-1 SEC), who watched their hopes for a berth in the Southeastern Conference Championship go down the drain when Auburn won earlier in the day.
LSU still has a chance for an at-large BCS berth, however, and the Tigers set right about showing they deserved it against the Warhawks (4-6, 3-3 Sun Belt). Brooks put the first points on the board and the Tigers added a pair of field goals in the first before Ridley crossed the goal line early in the second on a 1-yard dive to make it 20-0.
Another field goal sent them into the half up, 23-0, and Ridley and Edwards scored 30 seconds apart in the third to put it out of reach.
Spencer Ware and Michael Ford tacked on rushing scores in the third and fourth, respectively, to complete the scoring.
