Dion Lewis and Ray Graham each rushed for a touchdown and the Pittsburgh defense kept Louisville under wraps in a 20-3 Big East Conference victory for the host Panthers on Saturday.
Pitt (5-3, 3-0 Big East) has won three straight and established itself as the team to beat in the Big East. The Panthers are the only team in the Big East without a conference loss, but play three of their final four games on the road.
The Panthers led 6-3 at the half and pulled away with touchdowns by Lewis and Graham in the second half.
Graham capped an 11-play, 71-yard drive with a 21-yard touchdown run with 9:53 left in the third quarter to give the Panthers a 13-3 lead.
Lewis capped the scoring early in the fourth. His 1-yard touchdown run made it 20-3 and the Cardinals never mounted a threat down the stretch.
Pitt did just enough on offense, managing 255 total yards. The Panthers' defense allowed just 185 yards and a first-quarter field goal that gave Louisville (4-4, 1-2) a brief 3-0 lead.
Louisville running back Bilal Powell, who came into the game among the nation's leaders in rushing, mustered only 64 yards on 11 carries for the Cardinals, who have lost 11 straight road games to Big East opponents.
