Maybe Alabama's Julio Jones should hurt his hand more often.
After missing most of last week’s game, Jones came back with a vengeance.
The junior receiver torched Tennessee for 12 catches and 221 yards as the Tide beat the Volunteers 41-10 in the Southeastern Conference on Saturday night.
Alabama (7-1, 4-1) shook off an underwhelming first half, and exploded for 21 third-quarter points to stretch its 13-10 halftime lead. While Jones was setting career highs and a school receiving yards record, Alabama’s running game also was clicking.
Mark Ingram rushed for 120 yards and Trent Richardson ran for 88 yards and two touchdowns as the Tide used its superior size to wear down the Volunteers. Greg McElroy withstood some big shots, and completed 21 of 32 passes for 264 yards.
Tennessee (2-5, 1-4) jumped out to a 7-0 first-quarter lead on Tauren Poole’s 59-yard run. But McElroy’s 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter gave Alabama the lead for good 10-7. On successive possessions in the third quarter, Ingram ran for a 1-yard touchdown, Richardson busted loose on a 65-yard scoring jaunt and Ingram scored on a second 1-yard plunge to blow it open.
Alabama amassed 537 total yards, and looked dominant for the first time in a few weeks.
Poole led Tennessee with 117 yards rushing.
