Texas A&M rolled to an easy 45-10 victory over Kansas in the Big 12 Conference on
Saturday night, but also may have started a quarterback controversy.
With the Aggies leading 17-10 in the second quarter, backup quarterback
Ryan Tannehill took over for starter Jerrod Johnson, and threw three
touchdown passes and ran for another.
Tannehill completed 12 of 17 passes for 155 yards, and may have earned the starting job after helping the
Aggies (4-3, 1-2) snap a three-game losing streak.
Johnson handed off to Cyrus Gray for a 9-yard touchdown run and later
rushed for a 3-yard touchdown. Johnson also completed 12
of 20 passes for 139 yards, and was sacked twice.
After Kansas quarterback Jordan Webb threw a 16-yard touchdown to Tim
Biere to cut the deficit to 17-10, Tannehill came in and put away the
Jayhawks (2-5, 0-3) with three unanswered touchdowns.
Tannehill hit Jeff Fuller for a 27-yard touchdown and connected with
Ryan Swope on a 12-yard score for a 31-10 halftime lead. He found
Fuller again in the third quarter for a 39-yard touchdown, and ran
for a 6-yard score to put the game out of reach.
Gray rushed 13 times for 118 yards and a score, and Fuller caught five
passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns as the Aggies rolled up 522
yards of offense.
