No. 11 Wisconsin delivered the last blow in a classic back-and-forth Big Ten slugfest.
Montee Ball's 8-yard touchdown run with 66 seconds to play capped an epic 15-play, 80-yard drive and lifted the Badgers to a 31-30 win at No. 12 Iowa.
The Hawkeyes (5-2, 2-1 Big Ten) drove inside Badger territory on the ensuing drive, but burnt their last timeout unnecessarily and couldn't set up a game-winning field goal.
Wisconsin (7-1, 3-1 Big Ten) blocked an extra point in the first half and executed a perfect fake punt to keep their go-ahead drive alive late in the fourth quarter. John Clay rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns, and quarterback Scott Tolzien went 20 of 26 for 205 yards with a touchdown an an interception.
Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi threw for 258 yards and three touchdowns, including a 6-yard strike to Marvin McNutt that put the Hawkeyes up 27-24 early in the fourth quarter.
Iowa extended its lead to six on Michael Meyer's 40-yard field goal with 8:35 to play. But Wisconsin took 7:29 off the clock during their 80-yard, game-winning drive.
Iowa will try to rebound at home against undefeated Big Ten leader Michigan State next week, while Wisconsin gets a week off before traveling to Purdue on Nov. 6.
