Visiting Nebraska outlasted Oklahoma State 51-41 Saturday, handing the Cowboys their first loss of the season.
The shootout featured 1,035 yards and 11 touchdowns. Taylor Martinez rushed for 112 yards, and passed for 323 yards and five touchdowns for the Cornhuskers.
Martinez started the scoring with a 45-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Brian Kinnie on the Huskers’ opening drive.
Wide receiver Niles Paul tacked on six more with a 101-yard kickoff return after an OSU field goal.
The Cowboys moved the ball easily against the vaunted Blackshirts from Nebraska. Running back Kendall Hunter rolled up 202 yards and two scores. Standout receiver Justin Blackmon caught five passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns. His 80-yard flea flicker touchdown reception in the second quarter gave Oklahoma State their first lead of the game.
But Tyler Lagate’s touchdown catch put the Huskers ahead 31-27 at half.
Nebraska stretched the lead to 14 midway through the third, when Martinez connected with Kyler Reed from 41 yards out. The Cowboys answered immediately on a 1-yard touchdown run by Hunter.
Kinnie’s third touchdown catch sealed the victory for Nebraska with 4:29 left.
No. 13 Nebraska returns home next week to face Missouri. The No. 15 Cowboys travel to Kansas State.
