Anthony Allen ran for a pair of touchdowns and Georgia Tech broke open a close game with 21 unanswered points in the third quarter en route to a 42-14 victory over Middle Tennessee on Saturday.
Joshua Nesbitt ran for 106 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries and added a touchdown pass for the Yellow Jackets (5-2), who pulled away by forcing six turnovers and pounding the Blue Raiders with their lethal triple-option attack.
Georgia Tech rushed for 329 yards, one week after piling up 477 yards on the ground against Virginia.
Georgia Tech held a slim 14-7 lead at halftime, but that was as close as it would get.
Allen’s 32-yard touchdown run made it 21-7 with 9:06 left in the third. Nesbitt added a 26-yard touchdown pass to Stephen Hill less than five minutes later and Allen capped the 21-point third quarter with a 5-yard score.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 14-0 lead on a 20-yard touchdown run by Orwin Smith and a 1-yard plunge by Nesbitt.
Middle Tennessee (2-5) responded just before halftime with a 6-yard touchdown run from quarterback Dwight Dasher, who returned from suspension last week and accounted for both of the Blue Raiders’ touchdowns. Dasher also threw four interceptions.
