Texas Tech quarterback Taylor Potts threw four touchdown passes as the Red Raiders outgunned visiting Baylor 45-38 on Saturday.
Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin matched Potts' output by throwing for two touchdowns and running for two more, but he ran out of time on the game's final drive to preserve Texas Tech's victory.
The teams combined for 1,140 yards of total offense and traded touchdown drives from the opening kickoff. Griffin scored on a 1-yard run and hit Josh Gordon for a 34-yard touchdown pass to give the Bears a 21-14 lead in the second quarter.
The Red Raiders responded with 21 unanswered points, including a pair of touchdown passes from Potts to Alexander Torres and Detron Lewis to put Texas Tech ahead 35-21 late in the second period. Griffin threw a 62-yard touchdown to Kendall Wright to cut the deficit to 35-28 at halftime.
The Red Raiders (3-2) built their biggest lead of the game in the third quarter at 45-28 after a Matt Williams' field goal and Potts' fourth touchdown pass of the game — a 7-yarder to Baron Batch.
But Baylor (4-2) answered with an Aaron Jones' field goal of its own and Griffin's fourth score of the game — a two-yard run up the middle — to make it 45-38 in the fourth period. The Bears made two late drives into Texas Tech territory, but failed to come away with points.
Potts finished 42 of 59 for 462 yards. Griffin was 32 for 44 for 385 yards.
