Top-ranked Alabama's 19-game winning streak came to a halt Saturday as the visiting Crimson Tide fell behind early and lost 35-21 at No. 20 South Carolina.
Two weeks after his two fourth-quarter fumbles cost the Gamecocks a victory at Auburn, quarterback Stephen Garcia threw for 201 yards and three touchdowns on 17 of 20 passing.
Alshon Jeffery caught seven of those passes for 126 yards and two touchdowns, and Marcus Lattimore also caught a touchdown pass. Lattimore added 95 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
South Carolina (4-1, 2-1 SEC) scored on its first three possessions to build a 21-3 lead and force Alabama's offense away from its strong running game.
Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, who rushed for a career-high 246 yards in last year's win over the Gamecocks, was limited to 41 yards on 11 carries and the Crimson Tide managed only 34 yards on the ground.
Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy threw for 315 yards on 27 of 34 passing with two touchdowns, but it wasn't enough to keep from suffering his first loss as a starting quarterback since middle school.
The win is the Gamecocks' first all-time against a No. 1-ranked team.
Alabama (5-1, 2-1 SEC) had won 29 consecutive regular-season games.
