Vai Taua rushed for 188 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead No. 25 Nevada to a 44-26 victory over host Nevada-Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Taua scored on a 3-yard run and 22-yard pass in the final three minutes of the first half to give the Wolf Pack (5-0) a 14-point halftime lead. He then raced 72 yards for a score late in the third quarter and added a 2-yard scoring run in the final stanza.

UNLV (1-4) also struggled to defend Nevada all-purpose quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who completed 13-of-17 passes for 124 yards and rushed for 97 yards.

Kaepernick opened the scoring with a 16-yard touchdown run before the Rebels tied the score later in the opening quarter on Bradley Randle’s 1-yard run.

Courtney Randall’s 1-yard run put Nevada back ahead early in the second quarter but UNLV again knotted the score on Omar Clayton’s 8-yard run.

The Wolf Pack rushed for 374 yards.

UNLV’s Clayton passed for 214 yards and one touchdown and was intercepted once. Phillip Payne caught eight passes for 170 yards for the Rebels.
