Tim Jefferson ran for two touchdowns and the Air Force defense slowed
down Navy just enough for a 14-6 win Saturday at Falcon Stadium.
The Falcons improved to 4-1 thanks to a big special teams play and two interceptions of Navy quarterback Ricky Dobbs.
With Air Force clinging to a 7-6 lead early in the fourth quarter, Jamil Cook blocked a punt and set up the Falcons at the Navy 15. Four plays later, Jefferson scored from one yard out to give Air Force a little breathing room.
Navy (2-2) drove to the Air Force 33 with less than a minute to play,
but Jordan Waiwaiole picked off Dobbs to seal the victory for the
Falcons. Dobbs completed only 6 of 18 attempts for 103 yards with two
interceptions.
Jefferson finished with 62 yards on 10 carries and the two scores, including a 50-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. He also completed 5 of 7 passes for 87 yards.
Air Force's top-ranked rushing attack finished with 292 yards.
The Midshipmen had 209 yards on the ground, but struggled on third down and were kept out of the end zone for the first time since a 34-0 loss to Rutgers in 2006. Navy got a pair of field goals from Joe Buckley.
