Denard Robinson passed for 277 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 218 yards and two more scores, including the game-winner with 21 seconds left, as No. 19 Michigan (5-0) beat Indiana 42-35 in a Big Ten-opening shootout in Bloomington.
After Indiana (3-1) tied the game at 35-35 on Ben Chappell’s 19-yard touchdown pass to Darius Willis with 1:20 left, Robinson directed a 73-yard drive, which ended with his five-yard, game-winning run. Robinson completed a 42-yard pass to Junior Hemingway to the Indiana five-yard lineto set up the score.
The teams traded scores for most of the game and combined to gain 1,143 yards -- 575 yards by the Wolverines and 568 by the Hoosiers.
Robinson completed 10 of 16 passes, including three for 129 yards and a touchdown to Hemingway and five for 127 and a touchdown to Roy Roundtree.
Indiana’s Ben Chappell completed 45 of 64 passes for 480 yards and three touchdowns. Tandon Doss caught 15 passes for 221 yards. Willis rushed for 59 yards and two touchdowns, and also scored on a reception.
Michigan plays Michigan State next Saturday at home. Indiana is at Ohio State.
