Ryan Nassib threw five touchdown passes, and Syracuse rolled to a home-opening 38-14 victory over Maine on Saturday.
Alec Lemon caught a pair of touchdowns for Syracuse (2-1), which bounced back from last week’s 41-20 loss to Washington.
The Orange broke open a close game with 21 unanswered points in the second half, as Nassib threw touchdown passes to Lemon, Nick Provo and Van Chew.
Nassib finished 19-of-28 for 260 yards. Chew had with seven catches for 113 yards.
The Orange struggled with the Black Bears (1-2), an FCS school, in the first half. Warren Smith’s 6-yard touchdown pass to Justin Perillo gave Maine a 14-7 lead with 10:06 left in the second.
But Ross Krautman kicked a 32-yard field goal, and Nassib gave the Orange the lead for good with a 4-yard strike to Jose Cruz with 27 seconds left in the half.
Smith finished 21-of-27 for 134 yards, and had a 10-yard touchdown run for the Black Bears.
