Kendall Hunter rushed for a career-high 257 yards and four touchdowns,
and Oklahoma State racked up 548 total yards to rout Washington State
65-17 on Saturday in Stillwater, Okla.
Plagued by injuries last season, Hunter missed five games and didn't top
the 100-yard mark in any of the eight games he played. The senior
bounced back in a big way Saturday, easily eclipsing his previous
career-high of 210 yards, set against Houston in 2008.
Hunter scored on runs of two, three, nine and 39 yards, and he also broke a 66-yard run, averaging 12.2 yards on his 21 carries.
Cowboys quarterback Brandon Weeden, a 26-year-old former minor-league
baseball player, was stellar in his first start, completing 22 of 30
passes for 218 yards and three touchdowns.
Justin Blackmon was Weeden's favorite target, hauling in eight passes
for 125 yards and all three scores. The duo connected on touchdown
passes of one, 24 and 42 yards.
Blackmon also scooped up a blocked punt and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown.
Washington State quarterback Jeff Tuel threw for 213 yards and a
touchdown on 14-of-29 passing. Marquess Wilson led the Cougars with four
catches for 109 yards and a score.
After Oklahoma State took a 17-0 lead in the first quarter, the Cougars
cut it to 17-10. But the Cowboys scored touchdowns on their final three
possessions of the first half for a 38-10 halftime lead.
