Terrelle Pryor looked sharp in his season debut, passing for 247 yards and three touchdowns as second-ranked Ohio State pounded mistake-prone Marshall 45-7 Thursday in the season opener at Ohio Stadium.
Pryor, a Heisman Trophy candidate, completed 17-of-25 passes for the Buckeyes, who forced three turnovers and held Marshall without an offensive score. OSU ended with 529 total yards and held Marshall to only 198.
Pryor, who played into the fourth quarter, hit eight different receivers, including touchdown passes of 6 and 11 yards to DeVier Posey, who had four catches for 41 yards. Dane Sanzenbacher had three receptions for 113 yards and a 65-yard touchdown.
Running back Brandon Saine added 119 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries.
Marshall blocked a 53-yard field goal attempt by Ohio State’s Devin Barclay and Ahmed Shakoor returned it 64 yards for a touchdown for the Thundering Herd’s only points. The Buckeyes, who host No. 13 Miami next week, scored 31 straight points after Marshall pulled within 14-7.
Marshall quarterback Brian Anderson completed 16-of-27 passes for 134 yards and an interception, which was returned 30 yards for a TD by Ohio State’s Brian Rolle.
Marshall also fumbled away the opening kickoff, which led to Pryor’s first TD pass for Posey less than two minutes into the game.
