Stampeders 30, Roughriders 28: Bo Levi Mitchell threw for 298 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Calgary held off visiting Saskatchewan to grab a share of first place in the West Division.
Mitchell completed 23-of-29 passes and Reggie Begelton made six catches for 90 yards for the Stampeders (10-5), who have won five of their last six games. Hergy Mayala finished with five receptions for 70 yards and two touchdowns while Jamari Gilbert added a defensive score for Calgary, which won the season series that included a 37-10 victory on July 6.
Cody Fajardo was 20-of-32 for 209 yards and a touchdown while adding 67 yards on the ground for the Roughriders (10-5), who saw their three-game winning streak come to a halt. William Powell accounted for 84 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Nick Marshall returned an interception for a score for the Roughriders, which had won its previous two visits to Calgary.
Gilbert recovered a muffed kickoff and raced 28 yards for a touchdown to help put Calgary on top 10-1 before Marshall returned an interception 62 yards to pull Saskatchewan within two points. Powell rushed for a 3-yard score to cap a 16-play drive that drained over 8 1/2 minutes from the clock and give the Roughriders a 15-13 lead before Mayala caught an 8-yard touchdown pass to put the Stampeders back in front 20-15, but Brett Lauther kicked a 12-yard field goal on the last play of the second quarter to close the gap to two.
Mitchell fired an 18-yard touchdown pass to Mayala for the only scoring play of the third quarter, which stretched Calgary's advantage to 27-18 before Lauther drilled a 42-yard field goal with 8:13 remaining in the fourth to cut Saskatchewan's deficit to six. Rene Paredes made no mistake from 42 yards out to restore the Stampeders' nine-point cushion before Fajardo found a wide-open Powell out of the backfield for a 34-yard touchdown with 2:19 left to bring the Roughriders within two, but Calgary picked up three first downs to preserve the victory and claim the all-important tiebreaker in the process.
