Alouettes 28, Argonauts 22: Vernon Adams Jr. threw for 335 yards and a pair of touchdowns as visiting Montreal came from behind to knock off Toronto in the Touchdown Classic in Moncton, New Brunswick.
Adams completed 19-of-25 passes and added a rushing touchdown for the Alouettes (5-4), who stopped the Argonauts on the 3-yard line as time expired to preserve the win. Quan Bray caught five passes for 91 yards and a touchdown while Eugene Lewis finished with three receptions for 86 yards and a score for Montreal, which has won five of its last seven games.
McLeod Bethel-Thompson went 36-of-47 through the air for 464 yards with touchdown passes to Jimmy Ralph and Derel Walker for the Argonauts (1-8), who were held without a first-quarter TD for the 11th straight game. Rodney Smith hauled in 12 passes for 136 yards while S.J. Green gained 86 yards on seven receptions for Toronto, which blew a 16-0 lead.
Tyler Crapigna kicked a pair of field goals (39 and 44 yards) and Ralph caught a 6-yard touchdown pass on third-and-goal to put the Argonauts in front 13-0 midway through the second quarter. Crapigna tacked on a 46-yard field goal to extend Toronto's lead before Adams scored on a 1-yard quarterback keeper to pull the Alouettes within 16-6 after a missed two-point convert heading into halftime.
Adams found a wide-open Lewis for a 65-yard touchdown on the first offensive play of the third quarter and threw a 34-yard scoring strike to Bray on a double-reverse flea flicker to give the Alouettes their first lead at 20-16, but their advantage was short lived as Walker hauled in a 38-yard TD pass to put Toronto back in front 22-20. Jeremiah Johnson rushed for a 25-yard touchdown to give Montreal a 28-22 lead following a two-point conversion and could celebrate when Armanti Edwards failed to bring in Bethel-Thompson's pass in the end zone on the last play.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Montreal was without DB Taylor Loffler, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 10 and OL Tony Washington (personal reasons). … Adams matched a single-season franchise record with his eighth rushing touchdown which is jointly held by backup Antonio Pipkin (2018) and Sandy Stephens (1962). … Green (9,657) moved past Jock Climie (9,619) for 23rd place on the CFL's all-time receiving yards list. … Bethel-Thompson has thrown for 300 yards or more in five of his last seven games.
