Alouettes 36, Tiger-Cats 29: William Stanback rushed for a career-high 203 yards and three touchdowns as Montreal held off visiting Hamilton to record its first win of the season.

Vernon Adams Jr. competed 14-of-25 passes for 202 yards while rushing for 59 and a score for the Alouettes (1-2), who were blown out 41-10 in Hamilton last week. B.J. Cunningham caught two passes for 67 yards and Quan Bray made eight catches for 54 yards in his CFL debut to help Khari Jones record his first win as a head coach.

Jeremiah Masoli was 29-of-44 for 401 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Tiger-Cats (3-1), who dropped their first game of the season after outscoring their opponents 128-41 in their previous three contests. Jaelon Acklin hauled in eight passes for 120 yards and a TD while Anthony Coombs accounted for 112 yards from scrimmage for Hamilton, which couldn't survive 15 penalties for 179 yards.

Boris Bede kicked a 10-yard field goal and Stanback rushed for a 5-yard touchdown to put Montreal ahead 10-0 before Masoli fired a 17-yard scoring strike to Acklin to cut the deficit to four points after one quarter. Lirim Hajrullahu converted four field-goal attempts in the second, including a 14-yarder as the first half expired that gave Hamilton an 18-13 advantage.

Stanback took a pitch 2 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter to cap a 9-play, 104-yard drive and Adams scored on a 1-yard quarterback keeper early in the fourth to help the Alouettes build a 29-18 lead. Stanback bounced outside for a 21-yard TD to stretch Montreal's advantage before Marcus Tucker caught a 14-yard scoring pass and Hajrullahu booted a 33-yarder with 1:03 remaining to get Hamilton within seven points, but the Alouettes held on to register a home-opening victory after suffering back-to-back losses on the road.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Montreal OL Luc Brodeur-Jourdain played the 168th and final game of his 12-year career after announcing his retirement. … Hamilton RB Sean Thomas Erlington, who was named one of the CFL's Top Performers for the month of June after leading the league with 417 yards from scrimmage, suffered a leg injury in the first half and did not return. … Stanback became the first Montreal running back to gain over 200 yards since Mike Pringle accomplished the feat on Oct. 17, 1998. ... Tiger-Cats WR Brandon Banks added seven catches for 86 yards.
