Stampeders 23, Eskimos 20: Rene Paredes kicked five field goals, including the game-winner from 43 yards out as time expired, to lift Calgary past visiting Edmonton for the seventh straight time in the Labour Day Classic.
Bo Levi Mitchell completed 16-of-30 passes for 255 yards and a touchdown to help the Stampeders (9-1) stretch their lead at the top of the West Division to six points. DaVaris Daniels hauled in seven passes for 116 yards and a TD while Don Jackson added another 115 yards on the ground for Calgary, which has won six straight home games.
Mike Reilly was 19-of-28 for 250 yards and a touchdown for the Eskimos (6-5), who haven't beaten Calgary on Labour Day since 2011. D'haquille 'Duke' Williams caught six passes for 116 yards and a score while C.J. Gable accounted for 93 yards from scrimmage to go along with a TD for Edmonton, which has dropped back-to-back contests.
Sean Whyte made an 11-yard chip shot to open the scoring, but Edmonton's first lead in a Labour Day Classic since 2013 was short-lived as Paredes drilled a 50-yard field goal and Daniels caught a 19-yard touchdown pass on the last play of the first quarter to put Calgary in front 10-3. Gable found the end zone from 2 yards out to level matters before the Stampeders replied with a 19-yard field goal from Paredes to regain the lead, but Reilly found Williams over the top for a 45-yard touchdown with eight seconds left in the first half to put the Eskimos on top 17-13 at intermission.
Whyte missed a 46-yard attempt, which ended his streak of consecutive field goals at 15 in a row, before Paredes split the uprights from 21 yards out with 22 seconds remaining in the third quarter to tie the game at 17-17. Paredes and Whyte traded field goals to keep the contest deadlocked before Paredes kept his nerve on the final play to hand Calgary another home victory.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Williams registered his league-leading seventh 100-yard performance of 2018 while surpassing the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career. … Calgary WR Kamar Jorden, who caught 10 passes for a career-high 249 yards and a touchdown in the Week 11 win against Winnipeg, suffered a knee injury in the first half and did not return. … Edmonton lost WR Derel Walker to a leg injury in the second quarter. … The announced attendance at McMahon Stadium was 32,013.
