Redblacks 40, Roughriders 17: Trevor Harris threw for 345 yards and a pair of touchdowns as host Ottawa cruised past Saskatchewan in its season opener following a bye in Week 1.
Harris completed 26-of-36 passes while William Powell racked up 118 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns for the Redblacks, who avenged a 31-20 loss to Saskatchewan in last year's East Division semifinal. Greg Ellingson had eight receptions for 104 yards and Diontae Spencer caught six passes for 82 yards and a score as Ottawa finished with 459 yards of total offence.
Zach Collaros went 4-of-10 for 106 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions before going in the concussion protocol in the second quarter for the Roughriders. Brandon Bridge finished 13-of-22 for 145 yards and an interception in relief of Collaros while Jordan Williams-Lambert had a TD reception and Duron Carter added a defensive score for Saskatchewan, which fell to 1-1.
Lewis Ward kicked a pair of field goals (26 and 23 yards) to give Ottawa an early six-point lead before Collaros fired a 32-yard touchdown strike to Williams-Lambert to put Saskatchewan on top after the first quarter. The teams traded defensive touchdowns as Jonathan Rose returned an interception 56 yards for a score and Carter followed suit for the Roughriders with a 28-yard return to tie the game at 14-14 before Powell's 15-yard TD run helped put the Redblacks on top 25-14 at halftime.
Spencer hauled in a 56-yard touchdown pass midway through the third quarter and Harris called his own number on the 2-point conversion as Ottawa pulled ahead 33-14. Brett Lauther kicked a 35-yard field goal for Saskatchewan early in the fourth before Powell made a 4-yard TD catch with 7:57 remaining to cap an explosive performance by the Redblacks.
