Eskimos 33, Blue Bombers 30: Mike Reilly threw for 408 yards and Sean Whyte kicked a 44-yard field goal with eight seconds left to lift visiting Edmonton past Winnipeg in the 2018 CFL season opener that was delayed nearly three hours because of lightning.

Reilly completed 32-of-46 passes with a touchdown toss to go along with a pair of rushing scores as the Eskimos scored 11 points in the final 1:22. Derel Walker hauled in eight passes for 176 yards and a touchdown for Edmonton, which survived nine penalties for 100 yards.

Chris Streveler went 15-of-28 for 178 yards and three touchdowns in his CFL debut for the Blue Bombers, who were without quarterback Matt Nichols after he suffered a knee injury last week. Weston Dressler caught four passes for 74 yards and a touchdown while Darvin Adams and Drew Wolitarsky also finished with TD receptions for Winnipeg.

Reilly aired out a 101-yard touchdown pass to Walker and Whyte kicked a 52-yard field goal to put Edmonton on top 10-0 before Streveler threw a 16-yard scoring strike to Dressler to pull Winnipeg within three. Reilly called his own number from 1-yard out to help Edmonton pull ahead 19-7 before Streveler found a wide-open Adams for a 23-yard touchdown, and Kevin Fogg returned a missed field goal 110 yards for a score on the last play of the second quarter to propel the Blue Bombers to a 20-19 lead.

Streveler fired a 20-yard touchdown pass to Wolitarsky to give Winnipeg its biggest advantage at 27-19 before Whyte kicked a 32-yard field goal on the last play of the third quarter to trim the lead to five points. Reilly rushed for a 1-yard touchdown and found Nate Behar for the two-point conversion to tie the game at 30 with 1:22 left before leading the Eskimos down the field, setting the stage for Whyte's heroics.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The game was delayed twice in the second quarter for a total of two hours, 55 minutes. … Streveler became the first rookie quarterback to start a Week 1 game since Anthony Calvillo in 1994. … Edmonton DE Mike Moore suffered a hamstring injury in the second quarter and did not return. … Adams caught three passes for 46 yards and needs 44 more to reach 3,000 for his career.
