Kendric Davis scored 14 points and DeAndre Williams made crucial baskets late in the game to lift Memphis over Stanford 56-48 in the fifth-place game of the ESPN Events Invitational on Sunday in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Williams had 12 points and seven rebounds and Alex Lomax also scored 12 points for the Tigers (4-2), who never led by more than 10 and won despite shooting just 38.9 percent overall.

The Tigers held the Cardinal (3-4) to 29.3 percent shooting, including 10 of 33 from the 3-point arc, and caused 15 turnovers.

Harrison Ingram and Spencer Jones scored 10 points apiece to pace Stanford.

Davis and Jones traded 3-pointers to make it 50-46 Memphis with less than three minutes to play. Davis fed Williams amid traffic in the paint, and despite a Stanford defender getting a hand on it, Williams scooped up the ball and managed to score with 1:33 left.

Memphis forced a missed 3-pointer on the next possession, and Davis connected with Williams in transition to set up a two-handed dunk that sealed the win.

Chandler Lawson added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds for Memphis.

Maxime Raynaud and Ingram drilled 3-pointers a minute apart to push Stanford ahead 14-9 with 9:36 until halftime. From there, Memphis scored the next 15 points and held the Cardinal scoreless for the next 8:26. Stanford missed 11 straight shots in that span.

Lomax's three-point play concluded the run and gave Memphis a 24-14 lead. Jarvis Moss broke the scoreless drought for Stanford with a 3-pointer, and he made another triple in the final seconds of the half to cut the deficit to 25-20.

Stanford outrebounded Memphis 25-19 in the first half to stay close despite shooting 21.9 percent (7 for 32) from the field.

The Cardinal's shooting improved a bit in the second half, with four different players making at least one 3. Max Murrell made two treys, each time bringing Stanford within six, including 45-39 with 5:33 to play.
