Robbie Hummel scored a game-high 19 points and Purdue used a
pair of key second half runs to rally past Western Carolina 65-60 on Wednesday
in West Lafayette, Ind. The Boilermakers
(8-2) extended the nation's fourth-longest homecourt winning streak to 23 games
after rallying from a 29-21 halftime deficit.
Coming off a tough loss at then-No. 11 Xavier last weekend in which the Boilermakers squandered a 19-point lead in the final 11 minutes,
Purdue scored the first 10 points of the second half to go up 31-29. Then after falling behind 37-36 with 11 minutes remaining, the Boilermakers used a 13-3 spurt to take control against
the Catamounts (5-5).
Hummel scored 10 in the second half as Purdue held
off Western Carolina, despite shooting just 38.5 percent
from the field and missing 17 of 36 free throw attempts. Lewis Jackson added 15 points for the
Boilermakers.
Harouna Mutombo led Western Carolina with 18 points and 12
rebounds, while Trey Sumler chipped in with 15 points and eight boards.
