Mike Scott had a game-high 20 points, including 14 in the first half, as Virginia pummeled Longwood 86-53 on Saturday at John Paul Jones Arena.
Scott went 6-for-6 from the field and finished with nine rebounds for the Cavaliers (7-1), who took a 43-24 lead into halftime following a 20-7 run in the final seven minutes of the half.
With the win, Virginia improved to 7-1 for the first time since the 2004-05 season. Senior Sammy Zeglinski finished with a season-high 14 points and Joe Harris added 13, as the Cavaliers improved to 6-0 in the all-time series against the Lancers (3-6).
Longwood, playing its second game in less than 24 hours, showed signs of fatigue, which translated into poor shooting from beyond the arc. The Lancers finished 20-of-53 from the field, including 3-of-19 from the 3-point line.
Antwan Carter, who scored 20 points in Friday’s 92-81 win over South Carolina State, had a team-high 17, but no other player scored in double-digits for Longwood, which allowed more than 80 points for the third straight time.
Virginia, which has held its opponents under 60 points in every game, outrebounded the Lancers 40-20, including a 10-2 advantage on the offensive glass.
