Harrison Barnes scored 20 points as No. 5 North Carolina managed to grind its way to a 60-57 home victory over No. 7 Wisconsin in a Big Ten-ACC Challenge showdown.
Shackled for much of the night at the offensive end, the Tar Heels (6-1) broke free with a 15-3 spurt that created a 49-41 lead with three minutes to go. The only points for the Badgers (6-1) during the eight-minute run came on a desperation 3-pointer by Frank Kaminsky late in the shot clock, a basket that got Wisconsin within one at 42-41 before North Carolina scored the next seven points.
The visitors turned the ball over just four times but suffered through their worst shooting night of the season, hitting just 36 percent from the field and hitting five of their first 24 3-point attempts. Wisconsin came into the game ranked among the nation's leaders in rebounding margin, but North Carolina finished with a 42-29 edge on the boards.
John Henson had eight points, 17 rebounds and five blocked shots for the Tar Heels. Jordan Taylor led the Badgers with 18 points, while Jared Berggren added 14 points before fouling out.
